My grandmother Gladys Money was born in Neate Street in 1914. Her father was Albert Money, mother Aida (I think). She had two sisters and a brother Clarence. I think her father Albert was a local police office who would be called to the pub if there were any fights (he was huge). I have a photo of him and some others at the races in, maybe, Brighton

Hi, I’ve just come across this site I was born in 1962 and lived in Chumleigh Street. My Dad worked at Samuel Jones paper factory we moved out when it closed. I went to Cobourg Rd school. I have an old picture of my Nan singing in the Albany pub where my step grandad played the piano

Hi Arthur, a few years since you posted your request about The Albany. My grandmother was born at 105 The Albany, Albany Road. I think it may have been a tenement building.

Hi Gary

I have just been doing some family research and came across the question you raised back in 2021.

I would be really interested to know why 12 Ewell place is of interest to you and any information you might have of other families in the period.

I can advise that my father Edward Hewitt was born at 12 Ewell place on the 15/02/1937 and his mother & father were Lillian Hewitt & Edward Henry Hewitt who I believe lived there.

As I understand it the house was owned / rented by my grandmothers (Lillian) family in 1933 and although her married name was Hewitt, her maiden name was Smith and my Grandmother Lillian Smith was one of at least six children that lived at 12 Ewell place (Lillian, Rose, Violet, Daisy Maude)
I understand my great grandmother was called Henrietta Smith.

My dad Edward and my Grandmother Lillian moved from 12 Ewell Place, i believe in the early 1940’s when the ww2 bombings started and they moved to Bexley Heath where they continued to live for many years.

Many thanks for the reply, so sorry to hear about Chris. When we were young he was so fit. I have happy memories of our friendship and I knew your Mum and Dad and spent many hours with them.
